This term was coined by big game hunters, to refer to the most difficult African game animals to hunt on foot. Nowadays it's used by tourists, and tour operators, to describe the five that are most desirable to spot on a safari holiday. Although some might argue that some other animals are more worth seeing than the buffalo – such as the cheetah.
